Marc Broussard and Terrance Simien headline Fall Rhythms on the River Series 2010
Lafayette, LA. The Village of River Ranch will kick off its ninth fall season of the Rhythms on the River concert series on Thursday, September 30th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the River Ranch Town Square. The soul singer, well-loved Carencro native, Marc Broussard, will take the Rhythms stage for a second time and kick off the series. The three-time, Grammy nominated Cajun playing Eunice boys, the Pine Leaf Boys, will also take the stage in October 7th and kick off Festivals Acadien. And local favorites including GTO & the “D” Street Brass Band, Louisiana Red, 5th Avenue and Nik-L-Beer will also perform during the fall series. Finally, Grammy award winning, nationally acclaimed, Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience will perform on November 11th to end the Lafayette favorite event.
Rhythms on the River will run every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for seven performances beginning September 30th until November 11th. Offered free to the public, Lafayette residents and their surrounding neighbors are invited to join us for incredible live music, great food and drink.

I’ve been in real estate for over 30 years but have only listed a property I was living in once. Selling then was hard. We had lived in the house for a lot of years so preparing to sell was a lot of work. Three kids, cats, dogs and lots and lots of stuff to sort, give away, throw away or hide. But, for me, the hardest part was living in a staged house, keeping it clean and making sure everything was in order before we left the house each morning for work and school. Let me tell you, that is why the wife is always the first one to agree to reduce the price if the house does not sell quickly.
Now, I’m doing it again. I’ve recently put my condo on the market . After all, I’ve advised everyone who asked me lately, that now is a good time to sell. You may not get the price you thought your houses was worth but you will make up the difference when you buy. Interest rates are at their lowest in years and if you are buying an existing home, sellers are willing to negotiate.
So, I’m taking my own advise. I cleaned, painted and sanitized my condo. I moved furniture around and out and packed up all the clutter. The condo is bare but the garage is full. And, I found out I like living without the clutter. It’s not so hard to keep things clean and staged when there is less furniture, pictures and favorite things in the way. Even my grand-kids are better about picking up because Nana’s house is for sale.
I should know how to price property, right? I do it all the time for others and I’m usually on target with my market analysis. My condo has been on the market for 4 weeks and I’ve changed the price 4 times. Always lower, of course. It is now at the price I instinctively knew it should be priced at 4 weeks ago and its finally showing. I, like everyone else, didn’t listen to my REALTOR and lost a month of marketing time. I’ve considered planting St. Joseph upside down in my flower bed but I think I’m going to give this price some time first.
My next post will either be about contract negotiations or how to plant St. Joseph.

The near-record low mortgage rates seen during the past few weeks may not be around much longer.
Signs of improving economic conditions could lead Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke to raise key interest rates, driving up mortgage rates, says Stephen Stanley, chief economist at Pierpont Securities LLC.
The evidence includes more consumers are paying their bills on time. Past-due accounts at American Express declined 34 percent compared to a year ago, and Target Corp. reported its lowest delinquency rate in two years during the second quarter.
In another sign of economic improvement, fewer banks reported tightening lending standards this month, one reason consumer borrowing rose for the second time in three months.
“If lending standards start to stabilize, that’ll be another reason to remove the emergency measures, including the zero rate,” says Jay Bryson, a senior global economist at Wells Fargo Securities LLC in Charlotte, N.C., who formerly worked at the Fed in Washington.

Lafayette one of several cities where construction jobs grew
Lafayette was one of nine U.S. cities to report an increase in construction employment in January from a year earlier. There were 7,100 construction jobs in Lafayette in January, compared with 7,000 in January 2009, according to figures released by the Associated General Contractors of America. That 100-job gain put Lafayette’s percentage of growth in ninth place out of 337 metro areas tracked by the AGC. Eau Claire, Wis., which added 500 construction jobs over the year and went up by 23%, saw the biggest percentage gain in construction jobs. Baton Rouge lost 1,200 construction jobs since January 2009; the 3% loss put the Capital Region 29th among metro areas. Steubenville, Ohio, was the biggest loser with regard to construction job growth, falling by 1,600 positions, or 44%.
